If you use Google Meet to get online with your friends, you know the problem: if you want to join a conversation you first have to start talking. It takes time and effort to do so. If you don't know the person you’re talking to or how they can help you, you’ll end up talking too much and saying something you don’t mean. This is where you come in. Push to Talk for Google Meet is a simple extension for Google Meet that allows you to mute yourself while meeting up with friends. Just press the space bar to start talking, and release the spacebar to stop. No more fumbling around trying to mute and unmute yourself.

Mute will be on by default, but you can disable that feature in settings
